Our History

 The Back to Basics Music Academy has been established for well over 25 years offering private one-on-one instruction in voice, piano, drums, bass and lead guitar, audio engineering, and studio recording. Back to Basics offers lessons for youth (beginning at age 5) as well as adults.

The Academy provides technical training for singers, musicians, and audio engineers. Our instructors teach practical skills and music theory in private, one-on-one environment to maximize technical growth and development.


Back to Basics Music Academy is equipped with a team of Christian music professionals who follow a standard of excellence and bring their academic skills from major universities all over the country. Not only are our teachers trained, but they are active performers, music ministers, and worship leaders.


We offer beginner, intermediate, and advanced training.

WHAT WE DO

We not only seek to help our students master the fundamentals and sharpen their musical skills, but aim to help them better understand where their music skills and knowledge can apply in the real world. We want our students to be able to have a functional and successful career with their musical endeavors and passions.

Founder & Executive Director

PASTOR MILT & REV. LINDA MATTHEWS

Pastor Milt Matthews, CEO of Back to Basics Music Academy has served in Music Ministry for over 30 years as a singer, songwriter, producer and musician. His wife, Linda, is the Executive Director. In additional to private music lessons for youth and adults, their history of musical involvement in the community has included numerous summer music camps, professional studio recordings, radio broadcasts, and a YAVIM (Youth Against Violence In Music) Mentoring Program.


One of the hallmark's of the Academy is to focus on developing a well-rounded musician and singer. In this regard, it is our desire to not only train to achieve technical excellence but to create an atmosphere whereby students can exercise their gifts and talents through recitals and various concerts. Additionally, workshops are also offered on Stage Presence and God's Plan for Music.
